Jia Xia is een van de eerste Chinese musici met een Amerikaanse jazz opleiding (Eastman school of music, New York). Jia Xia is van oorsprong klassiek geschoolde pianist met een staat van dienst in China. De ‘dubbele achtergrond’ van jazz en klassiek is goed in zijn muziek te horen. Zijn repertoire is bij uitstek ‘cross border’. Een combinatie van spontane improvisatie, minimalistische invloeden en Aziatische folklore. Eenvoud en transparantie is Jia Xia’s uitgangspunt.
In 2019 bracht Xia Jia te samen met saxofonist Nathaniel Gao “Convergence,” uit, een album met eigen composities.
